While I was in New York Andrew spent the weekend in Cookeville. One day Andrew and his dad went to the nearby Burgess Falls State Park to enjoy taking some pictures together.

Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest

After the weekend, Andrew met up with a couple of his guy friends to do some hiking and camping. They headed east of Chattanooga to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. Joyce Kilmer is known for its record setting virgin timber, especially the Tulip Poplar. It has been a very long time since the three guys have been together, so they really enjoyed themselves.

New York City

After many years of talk, my mother and I decided this December was our time visit The Big Apple. We have talked about it since I was in high school. We went for a long weekend while Andrew and I were in Tennessee. It was a great time to go. The lights and Christmas cheer were a huge treat and the cold air was invigorating. We ate lots of good food, walked a lot, and packed a lot in to a few days. I'm so glad we finally set a date and followed through with it!

After we arrived and were settled into our room, we had lunch and explored the general vicinity.

We stayed just three blocks from Rockefeller Center. This is the tree and ice skating rink there.

Our first night we had tickets to the Broadway show Wicked. It was fabulous!!! So much more than we expected.

We had 48 hour bus tickets for the double-decker buses to hop on and off wherever we wanted, so the next morning we caught a ride down to the South Sea Port to see the Statue of Liberty.

We ate some great pizza in Little Italy for lunch. Then stopped in at another cafe for tiramisu and coffee....yummmm.

Look how crowded some of the streets were. It's fun and a nice change for a weekend but we were both glad to get back to a slower pace in TN after a few days in The Big Apple.

We went for an hour long carriage ride in Central Park that evening. This was a top priority on my list of things to do.

The next morning we went to the Today Show for a few minutes at the end. It turned out to be a great time to go.

After Macy's and lunch, we caught the bus back up to Central Park and walked across it huddled under our one umbrella to The MET and spent the afternoon there.

Later that evening we went to see the Rockettes in Christmas Spectacular at Radio City. The show was great!

Atlanta Aquarium

As we all know trying to get everybody together around the holidays can be difficult. There was only one day that worked for my older brother and I while in Tennessee, so we seized the moment. We met each other halfway one day at the Atlanta Aquarium. We had a wonderful time but just wished it could have been a longer visit. We first met for lunch beside the aquarium at an old fashioned place called Johnny Rockets.
